At the core of Carolyn Friedlander's book are eight gorgeous patchwork blocks - the starting point from which she explores the craft that goes into quilt design. Each of the projects is created to demonstrate how different design principles can completely change the outcome of your creation - experimenting with lines, contrast, colour, scale, emphasis, texture and volume to spawn endless ideas from these few blocks. It's a dreamy, inspirational book - but don't doubt the value of these blocks, as they're all more than just a little bit special. The Facing East block is a masterpiece, and we've already seen some quilters create some beautiful projects with this fun, but complex pattern.
