1. Don Bradman : Celebrating the Life and Career of an International Cricket Legend
Sir Donald Bradman's iconic status as a sportsman, national treasure and international influence will remain intact and unchallenged as long as the game of cricket exists.
Bradman's ranking as the game's greatest batsman is undeniable, as his test average of 99.94, with a century every third innings, has never been challenged.
The modern greats, led by India's maestro Sachin Tendulkar, concede Bradman hero status - especially significant given Bradman declared Tendulkar his like-image.
Beyond the statistics, Bradman's status within the world cricket community could be measured by the number of champion players and leading administrators - as well as the universal public - who craved an audience with the great man spanning generations.
He was the hero Australia needed during the Great Depression and World War II, and after his unparalleled playing career he was regarded as the most astute administrator in world cricket. He mingled with royalty, political heavyweights, the leading cricketers of seven generations, yet, importantly, never lost the common touch.
He spent hours every day, even up to his death at 92, replying to letters and requests in a selfless gesture to maintain and strengthen the people's love of the game.
This new book, Icons Of World Sport Don Bradman is fully endorsed by The Bradman Foundation, which exists to perpetuate The Don's outstanding life and promote cricket and young cricketers under the auspices of his legacy.
The book, using rare and previously unpublished photographs from The Bradman Foundation and other private collections, as well as memorabilia and personal items, relates Bradman's tale from humble beginnings in the countryside of NSW to international cricket stardom and homage. We discover his influence on world figures and cricket's champions, his neighbours and those closest to him about his private life as well as his critical cricket administrative roles, his life as Australia's most recognisable citizen, and the emotion of his death and the funeral that stopped a nation.
With a foreword by Richie Benaud and featuring new interviews and chapter introductions especially for this book from: Sir Michael Parkinson, Shane Warne, Sir Richard Hadlee,Arthur Morris, Neil Harvey, Sir Alec Bedser, Graeme Pollock, Jacques Kallis, Ranjan Madugalle, James Sutherland and more.
From past and present champions to his bridge partner of 30 years, the legend and life of Sir Donald Bradman is exposed in this his Centenary Year.
Being published 15th October 2008.
2. Glenn McGrath - Line and Strength : The Complete Story
Glenn McGrath is one of the most highly regarded fast-medium pace bowlers in cricketing history, and a leading contributor to Australia's domination of world cricket from the mid-1990s to 2007. He holds the world record for the highest number of Test wickets by a fast bowler.
He announced his retirement and his Test career came to an end after the 5th Ashes test in Sydney, whilst the 2007 World Cup marked the end of his one-day career. McGrath was named One Day International Player of the Year and Wisden Cricketer of the Year on more than one occasion.
He grew up in Narromine where his local captain thought so little of his bowling ability that he refused to give him a bowl. His potential was spotted by Doug Walters and he moved to Sydney, famously skinny and living in a caravan.
McGrath capped his rapid rise in the next Australian summer with selection in the national side after playing only eight State matches. He relied on unerring accuracy in his bowling and the ability to make the ball seem a little off the pitch.
In 2004, at the age of 34, McGrath took eight wickets for 24 runs against Pakistan in Perth, his best Test bowling figures and second-best ever by an Australian. In 2004 he became the first Australian fast bowler to play 100 Tests.
In the first innings of the ICC Super Series Test match in 2005, McGrath passed Courtney Walsh to become the greatest wicket taker among fast bowlers in Test history.
Glenn McGrath's behaviour off the field is as admirable as on. His wife Jane has successfully fought a battle with breast and bone cancer. Jane and Glenn have raised substantial funds to provide cancer nurses around NSW and use their high profile to raise money for breast cancer charities.
This is the tell-all story of an Australian country-boy who took on the world, and cancer, and won.
