Ae Fond Kiss is a WW2 story of Craig Stebbings, a young spitfire pilot, suffering from PTSD caused by a narrow escape from his burning plane and suffering severe burns to his neck, chest and face. It deals with how this affects, not only him, but also his family and those who try to help him. Although he falls in love, during his protracted stay in hospital, with Pamela, the nurse who helps his loss of speech, he rejects her on returning home, unable to believe she could love a disfigured man. His widowed mother, Philippa, is dealing with her own problems due to her Catholic faith forbidding the man she loves, also a devout Catholic, to marry in church because he is a divorcee, although he is the innocent party. The strong relationship Craig has always had with his mother is threatened by his frustrations and violent mood swings. We go through their ups and downs as we meet the various people who enter both their lives, some bringing support, others adding to their problems which are resolved in an unexpected way.
