* Nominations have now closed *
Friends, it’s that time of year again. That time of year when we shout from the rooftops that we love our island home. That we love being Australian and all it entails… and that means loving and celebrating our home-grown talent, in particular our writers who inspire us, who help us understand our world and who we are as Australians.
What better way to say thanks to these authors for their comforting/witty/haunting/inspiring words than to nominate them in the biggest reader poll in the country – Booktopia’s Australia’s Favourite Author!
- Did you cry your little eyes out whilst reading Jimmy Barnes’ or Magda Szubankski’s memoirs?
- Were your lunch breaks more enjoyable for reading Liane Moriarty’s latest blockbuster?
- Did Aaron Blabey have your kids laughing for hours on end?
- Have Manu and Luke Nguyen made you a whizz in the kitchen?
- Did Peter FitzSimons enlighten you on the horrors of World War I?
Then nominate them! As long as they were born in Australia (or identify as Australian), and have had work published in book form, then they are eligible to be nominated. They could include your favourite novelists, children’s authors, athletes, historians, biographers, chefs, entrepreneurs, financiers, crafters, interior designers, self-help gurus, radio personalities, models, or celebrities.
Jump onto social media now and start nominating! Tag Booktopia and your favourite authors on all your preferred channels – Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, or leave a comment below – and spread your love around. If there’s one award your favourite authors want to win, it’s this one! Don’t let them down… or they may never write another book again! Just FYI.
Nominations close 11:59pm, Sunday 8th January, 2017. Once they’re collected and counted, the top contenders will face off in a series of heats, ready for you to vote on starting Monday 9th January. And the best bit, if you vote and leave your email address, you’ll be in the running to win a splendid book pack worth $1000 RRP!
Over the past four years you have bestowed Isobelle Carmody, John Flanagan, Matthew Reilly and Kate Morton with this honour. Who will be next? The power is in your hands.
HOW IT WORKS
January 3-8: Nominations (on now!)
Nominate your favourite Australian authors. You can nominate as many as you like, anyone who you think deserves recognition. Nominate them in 1 of 5 easy ways: Email us at faveozauthor@booktopia.com.au, or tag us on Twitter, Facebook or Instagram, listing your favourite authors. Or just comment below. The top nominations will make it through to the Heats.
January 9-13: The Heats
The top nominations will be collated and split into Heats. Every day this week you’ll have the opportunity to vote for your favourite authors in each Heat. Only the very best authors from each Heat will progress to the final round of voting.
This is where it gets extra fun! During the Heats, you can go into the running to win a splendid book pack valued at $1000 RRP! – all we need is your email address when you vote!
January 16-20: The Final Poll
The top 75 authors from the Heats will make it to this final poll. This will be your final chance to champion your favourite Australian authors. Voting closes at 11:59pm on Friday, 20th January 2017.
January 23-27: The Countdown Begins
From Monday, 23rd January we’ll countdown your top 50 authors, unveiling 10 authors each day, until…
January 27: The Announcement
Australia’s 10 favourite authors will be announced on Friday, 27th January! We’ll be profiling your top 10 authors and the books that have made them your favourites.

Oh, I’m so glad I found this ad. It’s just that my very good friend the author also really wanted to take part in this contest. I know that this particular nomination has long been closed and appropriated. Please tell me when will the next contest. In the nominations I see names known to me. So nice to understand that not only I know these authors, but many other people too !! I would be very grateful for the answer, when all the same pass the next contest of authors. My friend is not a famous author, but I hope that in the near future this will change.
