Friends, we asked you to vote for your favourite Australian authors in Heat 1 yesterday, and the response has been phenomenal. Thank you all for voting!

We’ve counted the votes (have pity on us, there were thousands of them!) and your finalists for Heat 1 – and the authors who will be progressing to next week’s all-important final round – are…

A. L. Tait
Barbara Hannay
Bryce Courtenay
Cathryn Hein
Di Morrissey
Fiona McIntosh
Garth Nix
Geraldine Brooks
John Marsden
Kate Forsyth
Liane Moriarty
Markus Zusak
Rachael Johns
Tim Winton
Vanessa Carnevale

Congratulations to these wonderful Australians!

Some have garnered international acclaim, such as Liane Moriarty, whose bestseller Big Little Lies has been adapted for TV by Reese Witherspoon’s production company, Bruna Papandrea, in collaboration with Nicole Kidman. It will air on HBO on February 20.

Markus Zusak penned The Book Thief, the book that inspired the movie.

Geraldine Brooks is the author of Pulitzer-winning March, and Tim Winton’s The Riders was shortlisted for the Man Booker Prize for Fiction in 1995. He also won the Miles Franklin Award a record four times!

Di Morrissey is one of Australia’s most successful novelists, having written countless bestselling books over her career, which in 2016 spanned 25 years. Despite his passing, Bryce Courtnenay still continues to be one of Australia’s most beloved novelists.
