The cover for The Getaway, the 12th book in Jeff Kinney’s hilarious and bestselling Diary of a Wimpy Kid series, has been revealed.

Robert M. Pirsig dies aged 88.
Robert M. Pirsig, author of the influential philosophical novel Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance, has died at the age of 88. He died in his home in Maine after being ill for some time.
Pirsig’ story is one that’s sure to inspire aspiring writers – he was rejected by 100 book publishers before Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance was published in 1974, and became a bestseller.
John Purcell, Booktopia’s Head of Marketing and Book Buying said of Pirsig: “He was a writer who introduced me to philosophy when I was least expecting it”.

Expect four new books from Philippa Gregory, author of The Other Boleyn Girl
Historical author Philippa Gregory will be releasing four books in the near future, three of which will be fiction, one non-fiction.
The four books will comprise The Fairmile Series. Whilst we don’t know the names of books yet, we know the series will follow one family as they rise from being local farmers in the south of England to becoming dynamic entrepreneurs. The first book will be set in the mid-1600s, with the remaining books covering the following 300 years.
Expect the first book in September 2019.
Israeli authors and literary heavyweights, David Grossman and Amos Oz, amongst Man Booker International shortlist
The Man Booker International Prize, one of the world’s most prestigious awards for translated fiction, recently announced its 2017 shortlist.
The shortlist of six represent a mix of titles from both established authors and newcomers, from country’s spanning France, Argentina, Norway, Denmark and two from Israel.
The settings range from an Israeli comedy club to contemporary Copenhagen, from a sleepless night in Vienna to a troubled delirium in Argentina. The list is dominated by contemporary settings but also features a divided Jerusalem of 1959 and a remote island in Norway in the early 20th century… Discover the shortlist here.

The 2017 Australian/Vogel Literary Award finalists announced
The finalists for the 2017 Australian/Vogel Literary Award for an unpublished manuscript by a writer under the age of 35 were recently announced.
The five titles on this year’s shortlist are:
* Australia’s War With France: The Campaign is Syria and Lebanon, 1941 (non-fiction) by Richard James
* The Lost Pages by Marija Pericic
* Locust Summer by David Allan-Petale
* Tryst by Jarrah Dundler
* Inside the Tiger by Hayley Lawrence
The prize, worth $20,000, will be announced on April 26, with writer and TV star Ben Law hosting ceremonies at the Allen and Unwin publisher office. The winner will join the likes of Tim Winton, Kate Grenville and Mandy Sayer.

Alwyn Hamilton’s Rebel of the Sands to be adapted for the big screen
Willow Smith (actress, singer, and daughter of film stars Will and Jada Pinkett Smith), along with her production company MSFTS Production and Cartel Entertainment, has acquired the film rights to young adult fantasy trilogy Rebel of the Sands by Alwyn Hamilton.
Rebel of the Sands is the first book in the trilogy – it’s packed with shooting contests, train robberies, festivals under the stars, powerful Djinni magic and an electrifying love story. It follows 17-year-old Amani as she flees her hometown of Dustwalk on a dangerous journey through the desert nation of Miraji, where mortals rule, but mythical beasts still roam the wild.
Traitor to the Throne, the second book which was released early this year, follows Amani into a world of espionage, harems, and the Sultan himself.
