The film adaptation of Patrick Ness’ A Monster Calls will be hitting our big screens on July 27, the story of a young boy who escapes into a fantasy world of monsters and fairytales as a way of escaping the reality of his mother’s illness and his bullies at school. The film stars Liam Neeson, Sigourney Weaver, Felicity Jones and Lewis MacDougal.

The Byron Bay Writers’ Festival has announced its guest line-up. And what a line-up it is! Over 130 writers and thinkers will attend the event that will run from 4-6 August, 2017. Expect authors such as Jimmy Barnes, Julia Baird, Cosentino, Richard Fidler, Peter FitzSimons, Hannah Kent, Magdalena Roze. View the full line-up here.

The Miles Franklin Literary Award – one of Australia’s most prestigious awards honouring our talented Australians who write specifically about our country – announced its five finalists recently.
