The Magic Misfits by Neil Patrick HarrisBeloved Emmy Award-winning American actor, producer and director Neil Patrick Harris will publish the first book in his debut children’s series The Magic Misfits in November this year. The series will include four books.

“Two of my favourite things are magic and reading,” says Harris, “which collided with two new favourite things: my twin six-year-old children.”

Currently starring in Netflix’s A Series of Unfortunate Events as the greedy Count Olaf, Harris is best known for playing Barney Stinson in the television comedy series How I Met Your Mother, and the title character in Joss Whedon’s Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog. He previously starred as teenage doctor Doogie Howser in Doogie Howser, MD.

Perhaps less widely known is Harris’s prowess as a magician. He served as President of the Academy of Magical Arts from 2011-2014, making him especially qualified to write this series for middle-grade readers about an offbeat group of magic-loving children who band together to protect their town from evil.

The Magic Misfits by Neil Patrick Harris will release worldwide on 21st November 2017, which also happens to be the birthday of yours truly. Just saying.

What Booktopia’s Tanaya Lowden had to say about the book:

The Magic Misfits is a book that I wish I had been lucky to read as a child. It is adorable, magical, compelling, and tugs on the heartstrings with its beautiful friendships and diverse characters. Children (and their parents) will delight in the story, written in a way reminiscent of A Series of Unfortunate Events by Lemony Snicket through the inclusion of definitions for more challenging words. This book is a bundle of fun with its addition of magic trick tutorials sprinkled throughout. The Magic Misfits is a terrific start to a new series, and one I can’t wait to read more of.

About the book:

When street magician Carter runs away, he never expects to find friends and magic in a sleepy New England town. But like any good trick, things change instantly as greedy B.B. Bosso and his crew of crooked carnies arrive to steal anything and everything they can get their sticky fingers on.

After a fateful encounter with the local purveyor of illusion, Dante Vernon, Carter teams up with five other like-minded kids. Together, using both teamwork and magic, they’ll set out to save the town of Mineral Wells from Bosso’s villainous clutches. These six Magic Misfits will soon discover adventure, friendship, and their own self-worth in this delightful new series.

This book isn’t just a book. It’s a treasure trove of secrets and ciphers and codes and even stage tricks.
