Best of 2017 Picture Books

We thought it best to kick off our annual best of lists with a category close to everyone’s hearts – children’s picture books. Our book experts have happily spent hours going through and reading this year’s releases. It’s a hard area to judge so we tried to narrow it down to books that excelled in three crucial ways:

1. Bringing a sense of wonder and joy to books and reading
2. Being a delight for kids and adults to read and share together
3. X-factor – Does the book have that extra sparkle that makes you want to read again and again?

With this in mind, we selected a shortlist of seven books with one brilliant winner. You’ll find veterans of the form such as Kate Mayes (The Bum Book) and Oliver Jeffers (Here We Are), alongside exciting debuts like young Aussie Sha’an d’Anthes with her magical new book Zoom.
