Amy in Romancelandia #11: Books for and by women!

Amy in Romancelandia

Hello lovelies and welcome back to Romancelandia, the land that, in this week of International Women’s Day, is all about celebrating women’s stories. Celebrating books that are largely written and published by women. For women. Books that do not say – contrary to popular belief – that a woman needs a man/partner to be a fully realised human being but acknowledges that the journey of life, if one so chooses, can be sweeter when shared with another and there’s absolutely nothing wrong with that.

Books that say it’s okay for women to have good sex and great love and spectacular orgasms and you don’t have to throw yourself under a train or wear a scarlet letter around your neck. Yes, down this rabbit hole, we are all about books that privilege women and their pleasure.

So, come on in and relax. Helen Reddy is belting out ‘I Am Woman’ and there are jugs of Frida Kahl-adas, not to mention a bunch of books out this month from Aussie and international authors where women win – hallelujah!

All are available via Booktopia in either print or digital, so just click on the covers if something takes your fancy.

Amy’s Favourite of the Month!

Each month I choose an author who I simply adore and showcase one of their books. This month I’m choosing the ab fab Talia Hibbert.

Talia is an English author who writes (quoting directly from her website) ‘steamy, diverse romance because she believes that people of marginalised identities need honest and positive representation’. And I couldn’t put it better if I tried. Her books are funny and charming and lovely, as well as witty and sexy and bitingly insightful.

Hard to know which one to pick but how about starting with the first in the Brown sisters books and just, you know, keep on going?

Get a Life Chloe Brown

9780349425214

Chloe Brown is a chronically ill computer geek with a goal, a plan and a list. After almost – but not quite – dying, she’s come up with seven directives to help her ‘Get a Life’, and she’s already completed the first: finally moving out of her glamorous family’s mansion. The next items?

  • Enjoy a drunken night out.
  • Ride a motorcycle.
  • Go camping.
  • Have meaningless but thoroughly enjoyable sex.
  • Travel the world with nothing but hand luggage.
  • And … do something bad.

But it’s not easy being bad, even when you’ve written step-by-step guidelines on how to do it correctly. What Chloe needs is a teacher, and she knows just the man for the job. Redford ‘Red’ Morgan: a handyman with tattoos, a motorcycle and more sex appeal than ten-thousand Hollywood heartthrobs …
