Imagine a cross between classic action movies like The Fugitive and Con Air, with a dash of Prison Break and a whole heap of Candice Fox’s unique brand of zany humour, and you’ll have an idea of what’s in store for you in The Chase.

Every time Candice Fox publishes a book I end up telling everyone I know that it’s her ‘best book yet’ and the crazy thing is that it’s always true. Each new Candice Fox book becomes my new favourite Candice Fox book and I truly don’t know how she keeps pulling that off — it’s a special skill.

The premise of The Chase is bonkers in the best possible way. An outrageous prison break scheme sees more than six hundred of the world’s most dangerous criminals set loose in the Nevada desert, causing havoc. Murderers, con artists, serial killers and terrorists — these men are the worst of the worst and must be caught as quickly as possible. And so begins an epic manhunt!

Prison warden Celine Osbourne takes it upon herself to join the hunt, with her sights set on capturing one prisoner above all others: convicted family annihilator John Kradle. Celine has her own reasons for hating Kradle more than any other prisoner and is determined to be the one to put him back behind bars where he belongs. Meanwhile, Kradle is equally determined to prove his innocence. Finding himself unexpectedly free, he seizes on the chance to clear his name, only to find himself saddled with an unwanted travel buddy who may or may not be plotting to strangle him at any given moment …

With a plot that barrels forward at warp speed, taking hair pin turns and keeping readers in a constant state of urgent suspense, The Chase is the kind of book that is so propulsive that you almost can’t help yourself from speed-reading it in a single sitting. This is the kind of action-packed crime caper that is impossible to put down because there is never a dull moment. The large cast of characters gives it the feel of a blockbuster movie — there are so many convicts on the loose, which means a wealth of intriguing subplots and back stories.

As always with Candice Fox, the dialogue in The Chase is a real treat. So much of the best humour is delivered in conversations between characters. Dry one-liners, snappy comebacks and funny quips — no one writes dialogue quite like Candice Fox! This book is really begging to be adapted for the screen.

Super addictive and crazy fun to read, The Chase is (predictably) my new favourite Candice Fox book!

When more than 600 of the world’s most violent human beings pour out from Pronghorn Correctional Facility into the Nevada Desert, the biggest manhunt in US history begins.

But for John Kradle, this is his one chance to prove his innocence, five years after the murder of his wife and child. He just needs to stay one step ahead of the teams of law enforcement officers he knows will be chasing down the escapees.
