Embrace Kids – Taryn Brumfitt & Dr. Zali Yager
With the launch of the Embrace Kids Documentary and book, we host Dr. Zali Yager and Taryn Brumfitt in collaboration with Kids Month!
Body image, and the associated issues of weight, food and physical activity, are hot topics in our families. How did we get to this place of constant criticism about our own bodies, and how can we get out of it?
To coincide with the release of her ground-breaking new documentary Embrace Kids, leading body image activist and powerhouse change-maker Taryn Brumfitt has collaborated with body image expert Dr Zali Yager on one of the most important health issues of our time – helping our children and teens feel comfortable about, and confident in, their bodies.
Kids Month – Carla Fitzgerald, Ashleigh Barton & Hana Tooke
This September, we’ll be celebrating the best new children’s books for all ages and reading levels: this is Kids Month! This week, Sarah McDuling chats with Carla Fitzgerald, Ashleigh Barton and Hana Tooke!
Carla Fitzgerald is a writer, a recovered lawyer and mum of three from Sydney. She studied Arts/Law at university before working for a judge, in private practice and at the Australian Human Rights Commission. Only after that did she rediscover the great fun of making stuff up and writing it down. Carla is a Books in Homes role model and a coach with the Harding Miller Education Foundation. Her favourite things to do are write, walk, read, eat, and hang out with her family. Not in that order.
Ashleigh Barton is a bestselling children’s author from Sydney. After completing a law degree, Ashleigh decided she preferred books and spent the next six years working in publishing where she ran marketing and publicity campaigns for internationally renowned authors and illustrators. Now she writes books of her own, in between looking after her three small children and freelance copywriting. Her first picture book, What Do You Call Your Grandpa?, was a CBCA Notable.
Hana Tooke grew up near Amsterdam, in a house filled with peculiar clocks and a head filled with a peculiar imagination. She’s been a singer, a teacher, and even a mad-scientist, but these days she spends her days writing stories, sculpting puppets, and collecting curiosities.
