by |December 20, 2023

The year 2024 promises to be a thrilling one for book-to-screen adaptations, offering audiences a diverse array of stories that span genres, captivate imaginations, and bring beloved characters to life on the big and small screens.

Join us as we recap these upcoming adaptations of popular books.

Biggest book adaptations in 2024

There are just so many book adaptations to discuss! Check out some of our favourites that we are excited about below.

Boy Swallows Universe
by Trent Dalton

We are super excited to watch the Netflix mini-series adaptation of beloved Boy Swallows Universe by iconic Aussie author, Trent Dalton! It features a stacked cast including Simon Baker, Phoebe Tonkin and Deborah Mailman!

Force of Nature
by Jane Harper

Any Jane Harper fans in the house? Same. We loved the film adaptation of The Dry and are happy to be back in the drivers seat with Mr Eric Bana as Aaron Falk for another mystery. Alongside Bana includes a fantastic cast including Anna Torv, Deborra-Lee Furness and Richard Roxburgh.

It Ends With Us
by Colleen Hoover

Coho took the worst by storm in 2022 and 2023, so it was no surprise that her most popular novel has been optioned for film. With Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni starring, this movie will definitely be one to watch.

Dune Messiah
by Frank Herbert

Dune smashed into cinemas in 2021 and we have been very keen to see the second installment. Luckily we won’t have to wait long as this film releases at the end of February 2024.

Wicked
by Gregory Maguire

Wicked has been killing it on Broadway stages for two decades now, with a movie being floated for a long time. Finally, we will get to see Glinda (or GAlinda – iykyk) and Elphaba fly into our hearts and screens. Mega popstar Ariana Grande and tony winner Cynthia Erivo will star as the titular witches in a story broken up over two parts.

Fool Me Once
by Harlan Coben

Fool Me Once by Harlan Coben is being adapted into an eight-part tv show for Netflix. Harlan Coben’s work is no stranger to adaptation, with books Tell No One, No Second Chance, Just One Look, Shelter and The Stranger being made into film and television series all around the world. Fool Me Once will star Michelle Keegan, Richard Armitage and Joanna Lumely and is sure to keep us on the edge of our seats.

3 Body Problem
by Cixin Liu

Netflix continues producing killer stories! The 3 Body Problem is an upcoming science fiction series based on the novel of the same name. This series is expected to drop on March 21, 2024. Game of Thrones alumni John Bradley and Liam Cunningham star in this exciting story.

Mickey17
by Edward Ashton

Mickey17 is an upcoming science fiction film based on the novel Mickey7. This cast is absolutely stacked with Batman himself, Robert Pattinson as the star. Steven Yeun, Naomi Ackie, Toni Collette and Mark Ruffalo also star. This film is anticipated to be released March 29, 2024.

Romancing Mister Bridgerton
by Julia Quinn

We couldn’t not talk about Bridgerton season 3! We have been dying to see Colin and Penelope’s story grace our screens and are happy that it is coming in two parts on May 16 and June 13, 2024.

Argylle
by Ellie Conway

Argylle is an upcoming spy action comedy film and this book is more of a tie in with the story. The premise features Elly Conway, an introverted spy novelist who seldom leaves her home, is drawn into the real world of espionage when the plots of her books get a little too close to the activities of a sinister underground syndicate.

You can now read Elly Conway’s book before seeing the film! This film features Henry Cavill, Bryce Dallas Howard, Sam Rockwell, Bryan Cranston and Catherine O’Hara.

We are sure more exciting announcements will come in early to mid-2024, but it already looks like we won’t be starved of entertainment!

Heartstopper Season 3
by Alice Osman

Heartstopper exploded onto our screens in 2022, with Season 2 dropping in 2023. We have well and truly fallen in love with Nick and Charlie and are excited to see their love story unfold in Season 3.

At this stage, we don’t have a Heartstopper Season 3 release date in 2024, but we have popped it into this list as we are very hopeful! They have just wrapped filming in December 2023, so we are manifesting seeing Nick and Charlie (and Elle and Tao) on our screens next year.

We are sure more exciting announcements will come in early to mid-2024, but it already looks like we won’t be starved of entertainment!
