Ideally a day of rest, Jews have interpreted and reinterpreted the traditions around the Sabbath to ensure that observance is not only rote but is also intentional, and the greatest form of that interpretation is that of liturgical innovation. Artists have contributed visual mediums to this expression, and musicians have channeled the sacred through song. To this library is added the volume of poetry before you. Intended to speak to the heart, each poem, each piece, while a commentary on liturgy, is a prayer in and of itself. Like all prayers, they are meant to be consumed or recited slowly and deliberately.
