David Walliams
"All you can do in this life is follow your dreams. Otherwise you're just wasting your time."
David Walliams is a very well-known British talent. For many, he is the charming and witty comedian, actor, and television personality known best for his series Little Britain and Come Fly With Me. He has even been a judge on Britain’s Got Talent.
Yet for anyone with kids, he is perhaps best known for his children’s books. He has created no less than 10 books, and sold more than 50 million copies worldwide. In his first release, The Boy in the Dress, Walliams tells the sweet story of a little boy looking for a female role model. His second book, Mr Stink, is aimed at teens and older children, and won the Children’s Award in the inaugural People’s Book Prize in 2010 – and was made into a short film.
Many of David’s children’s books have won awards, and many of them can be found in homes all over Australia.
Meet David Walliams
David Walliams was born in 1971 in London, England. He grew up in Surrey with his parents and sister, and loved reading colourful, dramatic stories – it should come as no surprise that his favourite was Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, and practically anything else by Roald Dahl.
Walliams would go on to study at the University of Bristol, earning a Bachelor of Arts in Drama. He spent his holidays performing at the National Youth Theatre, where he met Matt Lucas, his future co-creator of Little Britain and numerous other comedy works.
In 2006, Walliams famously swam the English Channel in 10 hours and 34 minutes to raise money for Sport Relief charity. He was appointed Office of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in 2017 for his services to charity and the arts, and he has one child with his ex-wife Lara Stone.
