When Evie mysteriously disappears, Joe is convinced she has become a victim of the villa's secrets. But in attempting to rescue her, will Joe become a victim himself?

I have been a fan of this author since I read Irrefutable Evidence and its sequel, Remorseless. I was not disappointed by his new standalone novel. It makes for compelling reading, with parallel stories spanning over a hundred years. The book is well written and the pace relentless. I found I couldn’t put it down and read it in very few sittings. If you haven’t read this author yet, you are missing a trick. I can highly recommend both this book and (his) others.

Another unputdownable page-turner from David George Clarke. The ingenuity needed to create the labyrinth in the ancient villa left me truly amazed. The switches in time worked very well and the various threads came to a very satisfying resolution. The scenes in the darkness were very atmospheric and I found myself shouting, “No!”, when you knew another victim hadn’t been careful enough ... I particularly enjoyed being introduced to another very well drawn and convincing baddie. I ... heartily recommend this book.
