This is a textbook for the standard undergraduate-level course in thermal physics (sometimes called thermodynamics or statistical mechanics).

Originally published in 1999, it quickly gained market share and has now been the most widely used English-language text for such courses, as taught in physics departments, for more than a decade. It's clear and accessible writing style has also made it popular among graduate students and professionals who want to gain a better understanding of thermal physics.

About the Author

Daniel V. Schroeder is Professor of Physics at Weber State University in Ogden, Utah, USA. He earned his PhD in Physics at Stanford University, then taught briefly at Pomona College and Grinnell College before coming to Weber State in 1993. He is the coauthor, with Michael E. Peskin, of An Introduction to Quantum Field Theory. From 2012 through 2016 he served as Associate Editor of the American Journal of Physics.
