This text explores questions of growing importance in international aviation law. Topics covered in depth include: mental injury; unruly passengers; spread of tuberculosis in aircraft; and the impact of turbulence on passengers. The subjects are treated internationally, traversing the field of aviation law from micro to macro level. The author also tackles the information-based problems of the future, such as problems of slot allocation and functioning of computer reservation systems on the Internet. Traditional areas of public international law are also covered in the addressing of problems related to refugees and inadmissible passengers. The text fills a gap in the literature for a new approach to air carrier liability problems consonant with the requirements of the regime instituted by the Convention for the Unification of Certain Rules for International Carriage by Air, signed on 28 May 1999 by the Contracting States of the International Civil Aviation Organization.
Industry Reviews
'One of the most valuable features of the book is a chapter on the future of regional aviation, where the author brings to bear the challenges faced by the various regions of the World and uses his considerable knowledge of underlying economic and legal principles to critically analyze the future of aviation in the regions...this book will be most valuable to practitioners and academics alike and most particularly to those in the business of commercial aviation.' Dr Nicolas Mateesco Matte, Director Emeritus, McGill University, Canada 'This comprehensive survey of the field by an able scholar will be a leading contribution, both to the literature on aviation law and to a better understanding of the manner in which the problems attendant on the airline industry can be addressed and overcome. It is a work of great value, not only to the international lawyer and the specialist in aviation law, but also to all those who are involved in the aviation industry. I commend this volume and wish it the special success that it deserves.' C.G. Weeramantry, International Court of Justice, The Hague, The Netherlands '...contains much of interest to anyone concerned with current issues of aviation.' The Aerospace Professional 'Abeyratne's third great collection of articles...Abeyratne is the air law newspaperman at the front: he sees what happens, and thanks to his knowledge of air law he not only represents the facts but also the background...the diversity of the collection guarantee's that there is something for all of us...the subject index is excellent...one man wrote all of this in more-or-less one year, I can only offer my respect.'
