Specifically focusing on Northhampton, MA and San Francisco, she draws on interviews with community members and the town histories showing how and why they have developed into safe places for gay, lesbian, and bisexual communities and in the process provides a new and provocative understanding of bisexual life. By going beyond simplistic definitions of bisexuality, Hemmings shows us that the story of bisexuality is much more complicated than as a sexual middle ground.
