This series gives the youngest children and beginning readers graphic novels of their own that handle real family situations with charm, humor, and just the right point of view for the age group .

Mr. Badger and Mrs. Fox supervise while the kids have a boat race in the stream. Everyone has a different idea for how to build the fastest boat. Ginger wants to build a sailboat, so they don't have to row so much. Bristle and Grub think a kayak will be more fun. Everyone wants to be in charge, except badger baby sister Berry, who teams up happily with their otter and ferret friends. And the race is on! It turns out there's good in everybody's ideas--and it takes teamwork to build the best boat of all.

The engaging Mr. Badger and Mrs. Fox graphic-novel series, about a blended forest family and four stepsiblings' efforts to get along, continues to provide both age-appropriate complexity and sweet watercolor artwork. Although the lesson in this episode is the importance of working together over going it alone, the involving plot is not overshadowed by its moral: Bristle and his stepsister Ginger can't agree on the best boat to build, so they compete--while Grub joins with friends in a group effort. Be sure to pick up the earlier volumes (The Meeting and A Hubbub, both 2010), as all will be popular. --Booklist
