In light of a marked increase in symptoms of anxiety and depression among students, it has become imperative to possess practical evidence-based tools that allow for effective, targeted and customized intervention. While the transition to postsecondary education is positive for many, an increasing number of students are experiencing mental health problems that hinder their academic success. The Zenstudies healthy transitions to college prevention program is designed for students who are making the transition to postsecondary education and aims to make this transition easier. The objective of this program is to improve the retention rate by teaching protection skills to help prevent anxiety and depression. The program consists of three components. The first, universal prevention, is delivered in the classroom by professors and helps students develop awareness around mental health and the postsecondary transition. The second, selective targeted prevention, consists of two workshops on anxiety management and depression prevention for subgroups of self-referred students. The third component is indicated targeted prevention. It consists of 10 group sessions of 6 to 10 participants with clinical symptoms of anxiety and/or depression, facilitated by two mental health professionals. The program consists of 15 components.
