"My name is Megan Fawcett and this is the story of how I set up the best football team in the world. Get ready for kick-off!" Nine-year-old Megan Fawcett loves football and is desperate to be on her school team. She tries everything to get the coach to notice her (even wearing a tiara!), but nothing seems to do the trick. Then Megan has her big brainwave: she could start her own team. An all-girls team! Now she just needs a pitch, a coach - oh, and ten other players...

This is the first in a series of fun, topical early readers; join the Girls FC as they take the world by storm!

Book features :
  • With an inclusive message, a diverse cast of characters and little in the way of competition, there's a clear gap in the market for Girls FC.
  • The first two reissues are publishing in May 2018, in time for the women's FA cup final and during the build-up towards the men's World Cup.
  • Women's football is an hugely popular sport, with a fast-growing audience: 4 million people watched the England women's team play the Netherlands in the 2017 Euro final and the FA invested £17 million into the sport.

About the Author

Helena Pielichaty (pronounced Pierre-li-hatty) is the author of numerous children’s books, including the highly successful Simone’s Letters, which was nominated for the Carnegie Medal. Her series, The After School Club, has eight titles and the bind-up, Clubbing Together, sold more than 25,000 copies in its first six months. A local girls’ under elevens team helps with the inspiration and tactical know-how for Girls FC, but Helena has been an avid fan of women’s football for many years – in 2016, she set up her own small publishing house to sell and promote Baby Football Fan baby record books; a keepsake of baby's first year for footy-mad parents. Helena lives in Nottinghamshire with her husband and has two grown-up children.
