Join Girls FC as they show the world what it really means to play “like a girl”

“My name's Lucy Skidmore and I love football. But my brother Harry has been awful since our parents split up – and now he's even getting in the way of football practice…”

The under eleven girls’ football league is well underway and Lucy Skidmore is her team’s best defender. But since her parents’ divorce, her brother Harry has been acting out. Lucy tries to make up for his moodiness by being perfectly well-behaved; but with her dad living miles away, her mum at the end of her tether and a sulky brother to contend with, she's feeling the pressure.

This is the third in a twelve-book series about women's football, with each charmingly-written book focusing on a different member of the football team and a different issue – all building up to the final book, which explores the future of the team as the original Girls FC moves on to secondary school.

Book features :
  • With an inclusive message, a diverse cast of characters and little in the way of competition, there's a clear gap in the market for Girls FC.
  • The first two reissues are publishing in May 2018, in time for the women's FA cup final and during the build-up towards the men's World Cup.
  • Women's football is an hugely popular sport, with a fast-growing audience: 4 million people watched the England women's team play the Netherlands in the 2017 Euro final and the FA invested £17 million into the sport.

About the Author

Helena Pielichaty (pronounced Pierre-li-hatty) is the author of numerous children’s books, including the highly successful Simone’s Letters, which was nominated for the Carnegie Medal. Her series, The After School Club, has eight titles and the bind-up, Clubbing Together, sold more than 25,000 copies in its first six months. A local girls’ under elevens team helps with the inspiration and tactical know-how for Girls FC, but Helena has been an avid fan of women’s football for many years – in 2016, she set up her own small publishing house to sell and promote Baby Football Fan baby record books; a keepsake of baby's first year for footy-mad parents.

Helena lives in Nottinghamshire with her husband and has two grown-up children.
