Harriet has Tonsillitis

"I have a four and half years old little boy who is Autistic and when he gets ill its really hard to reason with him and make him understand. I'd call it good luck as we got this book to read and review when my son had chest infection and he was given antibiotics which he refused to take orally and was being sick straight after taking medicine, so doctors had no choice but to gave him IV antibiotic for a couple of days and then sent us home. When we got home we had the book delivered. Its a lovely book which explains in very simple words and lovely pictures about the tonsillitis. Harriet is a young hippo who gets tonsillitis on her friend's party but Doctor Spot helps her understand about the causes and symptoms of the illness and why she needs antibiotics. Even though my son didn't have tonsillitis he could still relate to some of the symptoms Harriet had like sore throat and fever and also the antibiotics parts. I made him understand with the pictures how important it is to take antibiotics and he was happy to see that Harriet was soon very happy and healthy. Like most other autistic children my son is also a visual learner, he learns and understands better if sees it for himself. This book just did the trick and he started his oral antibiotics. The book itself is quite bright and colourful with very strong pages and my son loved looking at the pictures again and again. It's his favourite bedtime story these days. The story is explained in very simple words without using the hard medical terms that even a child with special needa can understand it. I'm so happy to come across Dr.Spots case books and I am already planning on buying few more books that he can relate to. I think there surely is a gap in the market as I don't really see these kinds of books that make it very easy for little people to understand and cope with illnesses so well done for coming up with such lovely books. The book has Parents pages at the back with medically vetted information on recognising and easing symptoms. In short we are very happy with the book. I wish Jenny leigh comes up with a story of an autistic child explaining why they find it very hard to interact socially. I'd definitely recommend Dr. Spot series to everyone specially if your child is more of a visual learner. The price is quite reasonable too RRP GBP5.99 totally worth the money!
