She has travelled to Asia for over welve years, hand-selecting antiquities for use in furnishing residential and commercial spaces. Kim's interest in the field began when she worked as a project coordinator for a government contractor in Asia. There, her interest in Asian culture and artifacts was stimulated and she began collecting herself. Soon, friends were asking her to purchase items and one thing led to another. In 2001, she opened Dragonfly Asian Antiques & Collectibles in Reston, Virginia. Kim's collection has been featured in numerous magazines and she is a member of the American Society of Interior Designers as well as the International Furnishings and Design Association.
