The 'Cognitive Neuropsychological Model: bridging the gap' poster summarises an approach commonly used by Speech and language Therapists in practice and research. The poster has the potential to facilitate hypothesis testing to identify patients' communication difficulties, in order to offer advice and plan the most effective therapy. At a glance, SLTs can: see which assessment would be most relevant to find out the extent of breakdown at a particular level of the language processing system; assist with teaching SLT students and newly qualified SLTs who might otherwise perceive the model to be over-complex and time consuming and under-use it. You can identity relative strengths which may lead to the development of compensatory strategies and more effective communication. (British Aphasiology Society Newsletter Size: A2). Melanie Lord received her Masters of Science in Speech and Language therapy (SLT) from the University of Reading in 2005. She specialised in the area of neurorehabilitation and Motor Neuron Disease (MND) working as an SLT at the John Radcliffe Hospital and the Oxford Centre for Enablement. In 2009, she joined the Oxford MND Centre team as a Research Assistant (RA), in addition to continuing to work as an SLT part-time.
