Cognitive Stimulation Therapy (CST) is a novel, evidence-based therapy, which uses simple cognitive and psychological strategies, including implicit learning and multisensory stimulation, in order to improve cognition and quality of life for people with dementia. CST has made a huge global, clinical impact within the last ten years and this landmark book is the first to draw all of the published research together in one place. Edited by Aimee Spector, who initially developed the therapy, Cognitive Stimulation Therapy for Dementia will provide a broad overview of the entire research programme and includes contributions from international authors who have adapted and evaluated CST globally.

Since its initial development at the turn of this century, a large collection of research studies have demonstrated how CST can significantly improve cognition and quality of life for people with dementia. The book will offer insight and ideas into theory and mechanisms of change, as well as discussion on the practical implementation of CST in a range of clinical settings. Drawing from several research studies, including four large, multi-centre, randomised, controlled trials, the book also includes a section on culturally adapting and translating CST, with case examples from countries including Japan, New Zealand and Sub-Saharan Africa.

This book should be essential reading for academics, researchers and postgraduate students involved in the study of dementia, gerontology and cognitive rehabilitation. It should also be of great interest to health professionals, including psychologists, psychiatrists, occupational therapists, nurses and social workers.
