Come by Chance

One day Bertha comes upon a tumbledown house on a hill. She sets to work to make the house a cosy home. Bertha names it 'Come by Chance' and settles in alone - until one night a storm brings a host of animals to her door, looking for shelter, and bringing friendship and song and dance, to make merry the long winter ahead.

About the Author

Madeleine Winch is a painter and printmaker, who has been exhibiting successfully for many years both in her native Australia and internationally. She has illustrated a number of children's books, including Edward Wilkins and his Friend Gwendoline. Madeleine lives in New South Wales, Australia.
