In this book the most significant diseases relevant for humans and their pets or other domestic animals will be highlighted, such as diabetes, osteoporosis, infertility, autoimmunity and many more. The aim is to illustrate that animals and humans may develop similar diseases, with similar pathophysiologies. The reader thereby shall be i) sensitized to recognize natural models for human diseases, and ii) informed about the current need of such and of experimental models for understanding the pathophysiology of diseases to be able to improve their treatments. Together with "Comparative Medicine - Anatomy and Physiology" the book provides a comprehensive state-of-the-art overview on all aspects of comparative medicine.
Industry Reviews
"Covering a subset of diseases that occur in humans and animals, this book compares disease presentation, diagnosis, and therapy focusing on dogs, cats, horses, and humans. ... The purpose is to provide a link between clinical and veterinary disciplines to expand how we look at different diseases. ... This book would be most useful for medical or veterinary students, residents, practitioners, and research faculty. ... On the whole, the goal of this book is achieved."
