This book gives technical people an idea of how to design functional financial systems within computer database systems. The material is based on the author's 20 years of applying it in industry, on his doctoral studies of computer science, and on his lecture notes for business and computer courses that have accumulated over the last decade. It covers basic financial concepts and then gives ideas on how accounting information can be recorded and processed in databases. It discusses general ledgers, receivables, payables, inventory, and fixed asset systems, as well as others. All file structures are explained, along with sample data, diagrams for the structures, and suggestions for other changes that can be done to accommodate multi-company and multi-currency situations.

An earlier book, "Life as a Professor", highlighted the challenges that are encountered in teaching current business and technology methods in colleges and universities, along with recommendations for solutions that are needed now in classrooms. A later book, "E-Commerce Concepts", discussed strategies to use when a business wanted to take advantage of e-commerce to increase their sales and international exposure. Another book, "MBA Strategic Analysis", discussed methods to use to assess business strengths so that opportunities for growth can be more effectively implemented.
