After failing to defeat Steve during their confrontation in the Nether, Anders feels lost in his journey. His destiny had appeared to him close enough to be slashed by his sword... and had escaped just as quickly.

Anders is left wayward, disappointed and lost, deciding that the secret to victory might lie in that strange power he has.

Because when Anders speaks to the world, the world answers. 

When Casper informs Anders that something of value is but a couple of days of travel away, Anders feels he has no choice but to join on a trip that soon seems to span continents.
