The first comprehensive survey of contemporary artist Dustin Yellin, showcasing his surreal glass sculptures with fantastic dystopian themes. For the past decade, Dustin Yellin has been dazzling the art world with his large-scale glass sculptures, which transport collage to another dimension. These ambitious works are created through an innovative technique using the atmosphere itself as material. With a precise and painstaking process, multi-dimensional images grow from successive planes of multiple stacked panels of glass, each individually embellished with bizarre found objects and eccentric clippings from diverse sources-with references to historical events and popular culture-to create intricate, three-dimensional collages that bring to mind giant psychedelic paperweights. This elegant volume includes details of the works, which take on an abstract cinematic quality, as well as a sixteen-page acetate insert illustrating a cross section of one of the glass sculptures.
Industry Reviews
"It's a feast for the eyes in the new book Dustin Yellin: Heavy Water by Alanna Heiss, Kenneth Goldsmith, and Andrew Durbin (Rizzoli), where the artist's dazzling work is chronicled." -TommyHilfiger.com

"The artist Dustin Yellin zooms through his cavernous studio in Brooklyn like a firecracker, all wiry energy and moppy auburn hair. . . . in the throes of putting together a major installation for New York City Ballet, which debuted in January at Lincoln Center - as well as a book for Rizzoli, Heavy Water, out this month, and an upcoming TED Talk in Vancouver this spring - he's become used to being in five different places at once." -Harper's Bazaar

"The result skips from his slides ("frozen examples of my building blocks") to his smaller work to cave and room constructions to the larger work (The Triptych and his "Psychogeographies") all with close-ups that linger on small details. The book is front-loaded with essays by Alanna Heiss, Kenneth Goldsmith, and Andrew Durbin." -Art News Magazine
