Engagement: Inclusive Classroom Management is a practical and exciting book for teachers on both classroom management and pedagogy, with current Australian perspectives. The central idea is that for students to be well managed, the teacher needs to plan thoroughly, and to engage students in meaningful learning.

As well as the inclusion of chapters on planning and teaching strategies, the theme of inclusiveness is further applied by the focus on management as both prevention (suggesting strategies teachers might use to prevent management problems), and intervention (suggesting strategies teachers might apply when problems arise).

Engagement also uses case studies that are contextualised (situated in real school contexts) and problematic (posing issues and problems). These cases, each including expert commentaries, encourage critical analysis, reflection on practice, and appreciation of the complexity of teaching.
