This is the fifth book in the Nic Thorn & Associates series.
This time Nic and the team are brought in to investigate the age-old scam of scamming the State Government's old age portfolio. The team base themselves in Sydney but when the fan gets covered with the brown smelly stuff they head back into Brisbane asap to shut down the fraudster. Meantime, one of their lesser-liked associates gets herself involved in a Real Estate Agency scam where the bonds are handed over in cash. It doesn't make sense to the team, but what their friend Dimond gets involved in only ever makes sense to her. Finally, the team investigates a questionable diamond prize, but getting stranded in Dubai on the way to South Africa was never in the plan.
Nic Thorn is the go-to guy and is available to travel around Australia busting scams, frauds and genuine misunderstandings with his crew of sidekicks including his computer geek, Chewy, and a couple of damsels that are no longer in distress. Nic is known as being a cross between Batman with access to cool cars and quirky gadgets, and Superman, being able to jump to a conclusion in a single bound.
But could this be the end for Nic Thorn and Associates, and how can the secrets of Nic's past remain a mystery? After all how many secrets can one man keep?

One Tricked Phony
Rose needed a +1, but not for the usual wedding/party as she was going to a funeral and needed a quiet, unassuming type but when Nic Thorn arrived he coerced Rose and her BFF, Sandy into a series of madcap investigations of scams, frauds, and misunderstandings. These adventures involve a portrait provenance, invoice inaccuracy, and a recycler's relapse, on their travels from Brisbane, Adelaide, to the SA border.
Two hurtled Gloves
Welcome back to Nic's world of diversions and distractions, which begins on a golden beach in Port Douglas, tracks down to Tasmania, and up to the banks of Brisbane. Nic has to investigate a wedded miss, the misguided pretence of Tiger tracking, and then back to Brisbane to handle some banking bastardry.
Three French Bens
Nic's friend, Benoit Trudeau, is one-third of the 'Three French Bens'. He has just bought into a high-end restaurant in Melbourne, so he calls Nic to have a look, as the numbers look fishy. Then Nic and his crew head to Rockhampton to help the Queensland Department of Ag look into some cattle duffing, and finally, Sandy has to deal with an old school friend, who has been banking on bending the truth.
Four brooding Birds
Nic and the team head to Western Australia to investigate reptile smuggling, then the team must stop a scammer from drinking sweet success of wine in Margaret River. Finally, they must look into genuine budgie smugglers west of Broken Hill.
Six Geezers Lying
This time the team are back in Adelaide as car insurance companies are driven up the wall by bogus claims and 'accidents' Then a national restaurant chain runs a competition where the winners are drawn before the competition is closed, and finally back in Brisbane, Rose believes her Father is in the middle of an art scam. Art is not always art, but fraud is always a fraud.
Seven hapless Hoops
Organisations continue to look to Nic Thorn and his Associates to sort their stuff out. The wife of Nic's friend goes AWOL and it's a little close to home for Nic to ignore. Then a car vanishes without a trace in Mildura, someone keeps digging up the past in Canberra, and a bogus horse race is gathering pace on Kangaroo Island.
