New to the Edition
- MindTapâ„¢, an online learning experience built on the book's content, is available with this text. MindTap guides students through the course by combining readings, multimedia, applied activities, and assessments into a singular Learning Path. Each chapter utilises realistic videos of client sessions to illustrate case management skills and concepts in action, followed by questions that ask students to evaluate and think critically about what they viewed. Instructors can personalise the Learning Path by rearranging and adding content, as well as measure students' skills and outcomes with ease.
- The book has been updated throughout to reflect current terminology.
- This edition includes information on the DSM-5 and how entry level individuals can use it, recent changes to HIPAA, a clear look at case management as a process, explanation of how the size of a case load affects service, discussion of ethical considerations for those working in the field of substance abuse, and a discussion of the differences among moral, ethical, and legal behaviour as well as how violations are addressed.
- New, revised, or expanded content includes information on the ecological model, the importance of mandated reporting, empathy (including more recent findings), the differences between confrontation and an exchange of points of view, motivational interviewing and why it is useful, and the significance of the first interview.
- Some material has been combined and streamlined, resulting in 26 chapters instead of 28 as in the previous edition.
- Expanded Appendices include material helpful in completing exercises in the text, such as an extensive feelings list. Students will also find a safety planning tool and a case manager's toolbox with information to assist in assessment and disposition.
