From the outset, Supreme defined the aesthetic, the attitude, and the quality of street wear for a generation that reached beyond skaters to fashionistas, post-punks, and hip-hop heads--the famed red-and-white logo becoming an icon of independent countercultural style worn by everyone from musicians to gangsters and high school kids. Bringing together the disparate elements of Supreme's output, from their legendary guerilla advertising campaigns to especially commissioned skateboard designs and their dense but concise back-catalog of clothing, this richly illustrated book is a survey of fifteen years of contemporary street fashion and culture reflected in the pioneering work of one of New York's most influential independent labels. With an introduction by longtime friend and customer Glenn O'Brien framing Supreme's emergence in the New York of the 1990s, the book eschews chronology and instead allows imagery drawn from across the label's history to show how the brand's identity has impressed an original vision on street culture since the mid-1990s. Focusing on the clothing as much as on the skater gear, the book collects for the first time all Supreme's collaborations with Larry Clark, Jeff Koons, Richard Prince, Takashi Murakami, Ryan McGinness, Marilyn Minter, Public Enemy, Peter Savile, and Terry Richardson among many others, and alongside interviews and recollections from Supreme's own designers includes contributions by the artists on their work with the label. Famous for releasing their products in definitively limited runs, Supreme is a label that inspires obsessive collection, and the book includes an unprecedented and comprehensive illustrated index of their clothing and accessories to date. A special limited edition of the book, slipcased and including a full collection of stickers produced by the brand since its foundation, will be produced for sale in Supreme's stores in New York, Los Angeles, and Japan.
