This introduction to sociology examines the complex relationship between humans and the environment and how this relationship changes over time, with technology as the catalyst. Adopting a thematic approach, this volume focuses on the evolution of societies to illustrate how societies evolve from one evolutionary stage to the next. Pictures, charts, and illustrations are incorporated throughout the text to deliver an engaging reading experience and give readers a deeper understanding of each topic. With clear definitions of the terms, theoretical perspectives and research methods commonly used in sociology, this anthology is ideal for the sociology major and the non-major alike.

Humans and the Environment introduces readers to a range of sociological topics, including:

- The Origins of Society
- Research Methods
- The Environment and Population
- The Advent of the Modern World
- Karl Marx (1818-1883)
- Georg Simmel (1858-1918)
- Globalization
