The book provides an introduction to digital signal processing for intermediate level students of electronic and/or electrical engineering and is also relevant to other disciplines which deal with time-series analysis; these include acoustics mathematics, statistics, psychology and economics. An understanding of continuous signals is assumed but all important concepts common to continuous and discrete-time signals and systems (for example, convolution and correlation) are reintroduced. Systems for signal processing (digital filters) are covered before signals themselves. This leads to the revisiting of some topics and this approach is favoured for two reasons: firstly, placing all of the simple material first allows an easy introduction to the subject; secondly, returning to concepts throughout the text is a valuable method of reinforcing learning. The book concludes with a more advanced chapter on selected applications. This book should be of interest to intermediate students on undergraduate programmes in electronic and electrical engineering.
