Meditation is rapidly gaining mainstream popularity as a tool for finding peace in daily life, but there are no true gateway books on the market--nothing giftable, and nothing that provides a simple answer to the question, 'What is meditation and why should I do it?' Invitation to Meditation presents the basics in a most enticing way. A beautifully packaged essay of approximately 5K words, it explores the ever more popular expression 'the present moment,' offers descriptions of the physical and mental sensations of meditating, presents its myriad benefits, and--as the title suggests--gently and enthusiastically invites readers to give it a try.Includes a foreword by bestselling author Jack Kornfield.

About the Author

Howard Cohn is a meditation instructor and spiritual leader with more than 40 years of experience in the field. In 1990, he founded San Francisco's popular group meditation, called Mission Dharma, which draws 100+ attendees every week. He is a senior teacher at Spirit Rock Meditation Center (in Marin County, CA) where he leads 10+ events each year. In addition, Howard has done postgraduate work in East/West Psychology and has a private counseling practice. When not traveling to retreats and speaking engagements, he is based in San Francisco.

Howard's friend and colleague Jack Kornfield, PhD (author of the foreword) is one of the leaders of the Western mindfulness movement. His more than fifteen books (including The Wise Heart, Meditation for Beginners, and Bringing Home the Dharma) have been translated into 20 languages and sold more than a million copies. He cofounded the Insight Meditation Society in Barre, MA, and he is a founding teacher of Spirit Rock Meditation Center, where he resides.
