Joseph Abboud
Joseph Abboud, born on May 5, 1950, is an esteemed American menswear fashion designer and author. If we liken the fashion industry to an ocean and fashion designers to fish, Joseph Abboud emerges as the great white shark in the realm of designing high-end menswear in the American fashion landscape. Originating from Boston, Massachusetts, Abboud entered the world into a middle-class family with a rich heritage in menswear tailoring. The roots of this skill are ingrained in his genes, as evidenced by an ancestor who once owned the largest men’s tailored clothing company, and his mother, Lila, who was a talented seamstress.
In 1972, Joseph Abboud commenced his academic journey at the University of Massachusetts-Boston and furthered his studies in Paris at the Sorbonne. At the tender age of sixteen, he delved into the intricacies of the fashion industry, starting his career at Louis Boston.
Joseph Abboud unveiled his inaugural menswear collection in 1987, marking the beginning of a stellar career. His talent was swiftly recognized with accolades such as the Cutty Sark Award for Most Promising Menswear Designer in 1988 and the Council of Fashion Designers of America's Menswear Designer of the Year Award in 1989 and 1990. His clothing collections and home furnishings are now available globally. Currently residing in Westchester, New York, Joseph shares his life with his wife and two daughters.
