More about the Moomins:
The Moomins are the central characters in a series of books and comic strips by Swedish-speaking Finn Tove Jansson (1914-2001), a painter, illustrator and writer. The Moomins are a family of white and roundish fantastical characters, with large snouts. After the first Moomin story published in 1945, Tove Jansson went on to write another eight books, four picture books and numerous comic strip stories about the Moomins. The Moomins have inspired numerous television series, films and theme parks. There is a podcast devoted to Moomins hosted by Lily Collins and Jennifer Saunders - the Moomin Phenomenon podcast, which launched in March 2023.
Moomins are a beloved heritage brand; the first book of eight was published (in Swedish) in 1945 and since then, have sold millions of copies worldwide, in over 40 languages.
Industry Reviews
This glorious sock collection inspired by the Moomin books are delightful. Each pair is a loving homage to the characters created by Tove Jansson. With 29 different patterns and easy to follow charts. Who doesn't want Moomins on their socks? With a little bit of character history for each pattern (in case you did not know who Snorkmaiden is) It may encourage you to read the books, or equally book fans to learn to knit!
-- Jackie Butler - Padstow Bookseller * Bookseller Circle *The book is a visual delight and great fun for all Moomin lovers who love to wear socks. The patterns are suitable for a confident knitter who works visually from charts. All patterns are made using a DK yarn so this could be an opportunity for one to use up stash for the many multi coloured patterns.
The photos inspire one to knit many of the projects and with 29 to choose from every member of the family could have a different pair. My personal favourite is Diving for pearls and I will be sourcing the tarns to knit myself a pair.
My only criticism is that most patterns only come in one size and unless you are a very confident knitter the pattern would be difficult to adapt for a personal preference.
