Dov Indig was killed on October 7, 1973, in a holding action on the Golan Heights in Israel during the Yom Kippur War. Letters to Talia, published in his memory by family and friends, contains excerpts from an extensive correspondence Dov maintained with Talia, a girl from an irreligious kibbutz in northern Israel, in 1972 and '73, the last two years of his life. At the time, Talia was a high-school student, and Dov was a student in the Hesder yeshiva Kerem B'Yavneh, which combines Torah study with military service. It was Talia's father who suggested that Talia correspond with Dov, and an intense dialogue developed between them on questions of Judaism and Zionism, values and education. Their correspondence continued right up to Dov's death in the Yom Kippur War.
Industry Reviews
"We are certain that both the educational and ethical content of these letters will play a significant part in deepening Jewish identity in Israeli society and promoting unity and love of God." -- Rabbi Haim Drukman, Director of the Center for Bnei Akiva Yeshivot
This book of perceptive letters written back and forth by two young Israelis, one in a hesder yeshiva and one a highschool kibbutznik, is an important read as we deal with our nations spiritual, material and security problems. I was taught long ago that a human being has many facets, but that what we should never forget is the spiritual element that Judaism defines in its own special manner. - Jerusalem Post April 2013
Letters to Talia is highly recommended for readers of both religious and non-religious backgrounds alike, as it exemplifies how a respectful dialogue can lead to a greater understanding and appreciation of anothers culture and background. Eliyahu Rosen
