She is a staunch advocate for sustainable food and wine production and emphasizes the significance of conviviality at the dining table. Libby is the co-author of “Meat: The Ultimate Companion” (Murdoch Books), a comprehensive exploration of meat from the perspectives of farmers, butchers, and cooks. The book delves into the history of major meat-producing animals, featuring international breed maps, cut diagrams, illustrated butchery techniques, and expert advice on selecting, storing, and cooking diverse meats.
With a background in history, where her honours thesis compared the food and rationing politics of France and England during WWII, Libby recognizes the profound role of food in nourishing not only the body but also the emotions and national identity. Her ongoing interest in food centers on its cultural and customary significance within a country, with a particular fondness for all things French.
Her weekly email missive, Eight Days, serves as a celebration of food, beverages, and bonheur in Sydney and beyond. In this newsletter, Libby curates food reviews and news, offering a unique review-of-reviewers perspective. Additionally, she addresses broader issues making headlines, providing a platform for insightful commentary on her “soapbox.”
Having lived in France and possessing fluent French language skills, Libby Travers also serves as the Australian correspondent for the Parabere Forum.
