Sociological investigation of modernity, society and everyday life often centre on a predominately urban experience. The research in this book focuses on two areas of growing importance: masculinity as a socially-constructed gender, and the impact of place or space on identity, but considers young men living in areas that are not densely populated--rural or agricultural areas, coastal areas, lowly populated or un-developed areas--and how the characteristics of these places have impacted on their relationships, activities and identities.
