Peter Howard

Peter Howard, has been for over three decades, one of Australia's most recognised food and wine commentators with an international reputation as both a presenter and consultant on food, wine and tourism issues. During that time, he has written 19 books and for years his national television segments, regular radio interviews and articles in magazines and newspapers have kept Australian audiences informed of the latest trends in food and wine.

In 2004, Peter was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes with a blood sugar reading of 15.8. Since then, Peter has, like so many Australians, battled with his weight and finally reached the realisation that changes to his previously excessive lifestyle were required and that he, and he alone, needed to take responsibility for his health.

He was quick to realise that his eating habits had to change, his exercise regime was to increase, his alcohol consumption was to drop dramatically and he was to embrace a new way of living. Over two years he dropped 20 kgs in weight and took eating low GI foods and avoiding all take away foods. He did, like all people who find themselves in this position, have his ups and downs with weight loss and revitalisation, as old habits are hard to break, but today, his is still keeping the weight off and maintains a regular exercise program.

However Peter passionately believes that life is for living to the fullest, and thus, lifestyle changes should not mean a lifestyle of denial. Thus Peter has spent much of his recent focus on designing recipes that are flavoursome, tasty and that all people can enjoy – both diabetics and non-diabetics.

Although now retired, Peter's passion for food and his belief that living with diabetes doesn't mean that you have to compromise on taste and enjoyment has driven him to support the founding of a new food company. This realises his dream of making tasty healthy and making much loved foods available to people with diabetes and pre-diabetes in a convenient format from a trusted source.
