Pip Williams
"A book as rich and wise and full of goodness as the good life it seeks to define."
She is co-author of the book Time Bomb: Work Rest and Play in Australia Today (New South Press, 2012) and in 2017 she wrote One Italian Summer, a memoir of her family’s travels in search of the good life, which was published with Affirm Press to wide acclaim. Pip has also published travel articles, book reviews, flash fiction and poetry.
Her most notable work is arguably The Dictionary of Lost Words, where she combines her talent for historical research with beautiful storytelling. For this release, she delved into the archives of the Oxford English Dictionary and found a tale of missing words and the lives of women lived between the lines. Not only did this historical fiction win Pip numerous awards and international acclaim, it was also chosen as a Reese Witherspoon Book Club Pick.
Williams has also released The Bookbinder of Jericho, proving her seamless ability to write in both fiction and non-fiction, creating compelling worlds and stories in both.
Meet Pip Williams
Pip was born in London, grew up in Sydney and now calls the Adelaide Hills home. For most of her working life, Pip was a social researcher. She spent her time learning about people and what made their lives worth living, which made her a regular expert for newspaper, magazine, and radio interviews.
As for herself, she loves reading, writing, and travel, and believes that the joys and disappointments of all three are what makes life so special.
Eventually, Pip admits that she “grew bored” with academic writing. So for a drastic change, she moved across the world, with her entire family in tow, to work on organic farms.
Her home in the Adelaide Hills spans 5 acres, which she shares with her partner, two children, and assortment of animals.
