About the Author

Jim Averbeck is the author of the critically acclaimed Except If, and won a Charlotte Zolotow Honor for writing his first book, In a Blue Room. He is a member of the Revisionaries writers’ group, and lives with his partner and his dog in San Francisco.

Mama’s reassurance that no matter what, he is the spark in her heart, causes his insides to warm into a “phoosh” of artistic flames that cover him in soot, requiring a more cautious bath.
