It also supersedes the remarkable pioneering work of Willibald Nagel: Annalen der englischen Hofmusik von der Zeit Heinrichs VIII, bis zum Tode Karls I. (1509-1649), Leipzig, 1894, re-examining and newly transcribing the sources he consulted.
