In 2013, Kristan Shimpi turned forty. She was a parent of two school-age children, and she and her husband were trying to decide if their family was complete. They could never get on the same page about more children, but Kristan had a strong desire to nurture. So, in six months, she collected four chickens, two cats, and a puppy named Smooch. Smooch's tongue was so big that it did not fit into her mouth, and she used that tongue to smooch everyone she met.

Smooch was a bullmastiff, a breed that was supposed to be calm, not need a lot of exercise, and be really easy to train. Smooch was the total opposite. She was one-hundred-percent love and not a good listener. She taught their family that love can be accepting and unconditional. This book includes anecdotes of Smooch's life with Kristan's family. It was not a long life, but it was full of so many adventures and memories that she will cherish forever.

Industry Reviews

"Smooch's World by Kristan Shimpi is a touching tale of a lovable, clever, untrainable bullmastiff who instantly wins the hearts of her family. As mischievous and challenging as Smooch can be, she provides entertainment as well as comfort in times of need. I highly recommend this book to all animal lovers." -Martha L. Thompson, Author of Giving Paws: Having a Service Dog for a Hidden Disability

"Meet Smooch-an oversized goofball with an oversized tongue who loves to smooch all she meets. Kristan Shimpi documents her family's hilarious seven-year love affair with a bullmastiff named Smooch, and it's a story that will appeal to anyone who has ever fallen in love with a lovable, high-maintenance fur ball with a huge personality! This is a feel-good book that is also smart, funny, and touching." -Reba Hilbert, Editor of Dog Ear Publishing

"I loved this book! I curled up the night it arrived and just wanted to take a quick look. Well, a couple of hours later, I realized I never got up! It is a great book for all ages. I loved that you saw a picture after some of the chapters. You could use your imagination, then turn the page, and yep, my imagination was right on target with the picture. My daughter is now reading it. She was excited to come home and see that I had it ready for her to start. Thank you for allowing us to see a glimpse of Smooch's amazing life! You can tell Smooch loved her family, and she was definitely well-loved!" -Sabrina Evans, Lover of All the Special Dogs

"This book was lovely. The chapters are quick, like small, delicious snacks that can be consumed in a sitting. Smooch was a rare beastie with no malice in her heart. She was huge and easy to love but seemingly not so easy to live with, and that made for many great stories. A fun read with some smiling tears at the end." -Katherine Brown, Dog Owner
