He happens to be their star pitcher but he also pulls off some amazing feats of athleticism while running around the field. He and his teammates give all credit for their lucky winning streak to Pete's stinky feet. Pete owes his stinky feet to a moldy old pair of socks that he is certain are his lucky talisman. When the championship game rolls around, Pete has got to have those lucky socks as his source of confidence. Once on the field, teamwork and team spirit take the Mighty Hitters all the way to the final play but in the end, it turns out it really is Pete's stinky feet that win the championship game for them.

Pete's stinky socks reminded me of how horrific my son's shoes smelled when he was young and working in a pizza shop. Needless to say, yeast is not good for feet. But all that aside, this is a story of grit and determination and the idea that sometimes the things we think will bring us luck in dire circumstances actually do. Great illustrations accompany this fun and exciting read as the author runs us through the actions and emotions of a tight baseball game. Middle graders will love everything about this book. It will have them cheering and laughing out loud as they read.
